About Us

The philosophy of McHenry Junior Warriors Pom & Cheer includes voluntary endeavors to develop, teach and promote youth cheerleading and dance. Through adherence to this philosophy, the organization shall attempt to insure that each participant is encouraged to discover their worth, both physically and emotionally. To promote sportsmanship and citizenship, while building character and fitness through cheerleading and dance.

McHenry Junior Warriors Pom & Cheer (formerly known as McHenry Hornets) began in 1995. Our organization is an independent, not-for-profit organization, and is run entirely by volunteers. The organization is open to children grades 1 through 8 for pommies and cheer.

The season starts in the middle of July and runs through early December and consists of Football Games and Competitions.

The football season consists of approximately 5-8 McHenry Township Junior Warriors football games. Games start the weekend before Labor Day and continue through September, and are on either Saturday or Sunday. Home games are held at Township Park. Some travelling may be required for away games. Game times will vary. A game schedule will be provided once the football league (TCYFL) has posted their game schedule

Each squad will participate in 3 competitions and will have the opportunity to qualify for the IRCA state finals. Participation in competitions is not required to be part of MJW. Each individual may choose whether or not to participate in the competition season. Competitions are on either Saturday or Sunday and normally last about 6-8 hours. Some traveling may be required for competitions.

Practices are an important part of pom and cheer! During July and August practices will be scheduled for 4 hours per week on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. These practices are generally held at Parkland Middle School. We will be outdoors for practices so dress accordingly. During August there may be additional practices scheduled for choreography.

For those who choose to participate in competition, mandatory practices will be scheduled from September through early December for up to 9 hours per week. Practices will be scheduled for anyday or the week or weekend (including Saturday and Sunday). Times, days and locations for these practices may change due to limited indoor space availability.

The MJW uniform (shell, liner, skirt, jazz pants) will be provided as part of the program and is the property of MJW for use at games and competitions only. T-shirts, spankies, socks, shoes, hair bow and poms (if applicable) are yours to keep.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
